Summary: The young, attractive Maria (Sophie Deschamps) arrives at the local hospital to begin training as a nurse, where to her horror, she discovers that Doctor Julius Steiger (Maxim Hamel) as head of the blood bank also presides over a coterie of vampires.
This wholly ineffectual and ludicrous group of characters (consisting of a talkative widow, an ageing queer and his boyfriend, a senile old man and the local stationmaster, his wife and baby, not to mention the Doctor's son) get their weekly "shots" from Steiger.
Being religious, Maria decides that she must somehow destroy the group. Being pursued by Doctor Steiger and his son, she brings about an accident which puts the Doctor in hospital, thereby cutting off the group's blood supply - who hover around biting their nails.
The Doctor's return to health is celebrated by a wild party where Maria hits upon the idea of painlessly destroying the vampires - of whom she has now become rather fond. This consists of injecting herself with Holy Water and offering herself as a special feast. Although reluctant to cannibalise the dear girl, the vampires go ahead but a complete volte face  takes place when the vampires have to give blood to the hopelessly anaemic Maria - thus effectively making her one of them.

Our Ranking

short review:

Highly entertaining black comedy about the sole surviving vampire chapter in Europe. The over-aged chapter (only one heir left to continue the tradition - and he's still a baby!) seems to find a new hope for their deteriorating bloodline when religious nurse Maria pretends to be one of them. Instead she wants to destroy the little community, although she has grown fond of the peculiar accumulation. The therefore arising turmoils are presented in a very funny, satirical comedy that fortunately refrains from slapstick elements of the Mel Brooks' kind. I had a hell of a good time watching this movie!!
