short review:

To be quite honest, I think it is really difficult to write a review about this movie - for one reason in particular - and everyone who has seen "Dracula 2 - Ascension" knows what I am refering to. The Ending. Now that this is out in the open, I should maybe start at the beginning.
There were quite a few things that are well executed in "Ascension". If you look at the story in general it might seem old, boring and not injecting any new life into the genre - but if you take a closer look at the characters you might find a few aspects that are intriguing. I enjoyed watching Diane Neal and the character, Elizabeth, she portrayed. Elizabeth does have a lot of conflicts and personal dilemmas she has to deal with - and even after she turned into a vampire she does not behave, or at least not totally, like one is tempted to assume. Pardon my brief description but I just do not want to ruin to much... especially not the few good aspects the movie can boast.
Apart from a few interesting characters the story itself is merely a reharsh of a thousand other vampire movies (some of which you might also be able to find on this homepage - now isn't that a coincidence?). Now, then again, that brings me back to the line I started with - I actually do not know if I can't like the movie. The ending delivers such a radical "movie interruptus" that it is kind of hard for me to simply say "the story sucks". In order to review this movie in the way it deserves ( or not deserves ), I have to wait and see "Dracula 3 - Legacy" which will hopefully bring light into the dark and maybe add another dimension or two to a so-far-boring story.
I'll rate this movie 2 out of 5, which does sound bad, but like I said - I want to see the Third and last part and then write a decent review of a so-far-boring-but-then-hopefully-interesting movie / series.
