Countess Irina of Karlstein (Lina Romay) resides quietly in a hotel on the island of Madeira, where she sustains her immortality by feeding on the life essence of men and women. When new victims are found fatally drained of potency, forensic scientist Dr. Roberts (Jess Franco) consults his colleague, Dr. Orloff (Jean-Pierre Bouyxou), who confirms that a vampire is responsible. Meanwhile, Irina is confronted by a poet who believes he is destined to become her lover and join her among the immortals! |

short review: Red hot idea: She's sucking her victims literally to death! But it's not only the blood she's craving for (Her victims are men, it's not the blood, so... catch my drift?). The version named "Les Avaleuses" is said to be a hard-core version with most of the vampirism cut out instead, but I prefer one of the more "vampiric" versions - we're talking 'bout vampire movies here, remember? It's done by Jess Franco, and you sure can recognize his usual line of work here. But it's one of his best vampire movies, so go and check it out!  |
