Summary:
Horror veteran Lon Chaney as the Wolf Man and John Carradine as Dracula arrive at the laboratory
of Dr. Edelman (Onslow Stevens) to beg for a cure to relieve them of their killing instincts. But while the Wolf Man is
sincere, Dracula is really just scheming to get close to the good doctor's luscious nurse (Martha O'Driscoll), whom he intends
to seduce into becoming one of his "brides of darkness". The mayhem and madness reach a feverish pitch when the doctor discovers
the body of Frankenstein's Monster (Glenn Strange) and begins to bring it back to life. All of this is more than the nearby villagers can stand
as they become determined to stop the lunacy that threatens the safety of their families and their town.
Note:
- While "House Of Dracula" was reportedly supposed to have ended the Universal monster horror cycle (that began with "Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man" (1943)), Dracula, the Wolfman and Frankenstein returned one more time in Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948). - Unfortunately the producers made such drastic cuts in the budget that footage from the ending of "Ghost of Frankenstein" was taken to fill in the final closing seconds (the original ending, as written, was staged in the catacombs beneath the laboratory, with the floor giving way to engulf Edelmann and the Monster). - The film treats vampirism and lycanthropy as diseases, more so than supernatural afflictions.
