Lemora - A Child's Tale of the Supernatural Lemora is a unique and macabre vampire film with a haunting atmosphere. This cult masterpiece was filmed in 1973 and released in 1974 only to be banned by the Catholic Film Board (Legion of Decency). The story sets place in 1930's Georgia (although it was filmed in California) and is based on a young teenage girl who travels from her adopted home with a Preacher (Richard Blackburn) to find her estranged father, a gangster on the run for numerous killings Lila is led to a town called Asteroth (!) and her bus is attacked by werewolf like vampires which seem to have reverted to an extremely bestial state. Lila is then taken to Lemora's mansion and is led through her nightmarish world of vampires, a hag and ghosts which inhabit the mansion.

Lemora seems to be a character developed from the myths of Lamia and Lilith, vampires who drink the blood of children and others in the night. Lemora has a handful of 'adopted' children which are all vampires. While obviously on a low budget, Lemora is a masterpiece of well executed horror, nearly as much of an atmosphere as some H.P. Lovecraft stories. This is a horror film which has a very happy ending (for those who may enjoy when vampires triumph) which separates it from many films of its kind, even leading to the Catholic Film Board banning Lemora for 21 years. Richard Blackburn's directing skills, along with his ability to capture atmosphere and nightmarish stage sets clearly puts to shame many high budget horror directors 29 years later! SYNAPSE FILMS is to re-release this cult classic on DVD and have recently put it through a NEW transfer, presenting it in the most stunning version to date!
