Summary: While looking for the earthly remains of Count Dracula (Thomas Desfosse), a Professor (Jacques Regis) and his young assistant (Denis Tallaron) are thrown into a surreal parallel universe of darkness and decay where they encounter supernatural creatures, such as a jester (Thomas Smith), his vampire lover (Sandrine Thoquet), the scarlet She-Wolf (Brigitte Lahaie), sorcerers and a sensuous, baby-eating Ogress (Magalie Madison)! Ultimately, the Professor's quest leads to a confrontation with the beautiful Isabelle (Cyrille Iste) who is possessed by an unspeakable evil force and has the power to decide his fate!
Note: - After a fallow period (because of heart problems), French director Jean Rollin, famous for his surrealistic and arty vampire films, actually picked up Dracula for the first time.
- The movie is build on themes and images from his early 1970s vampire films (the grandfather clock from "Le Frisson Des Vampires", the skeletons from "Requiem Pour Un Vampire" and the omnipresent beach and cliffside scenes).
- Rollin often expressed a great deal of admiration for the writer Gaston Leroux, and, as in the last scene of "Le Viol Du Vampire", the bride quotes Leroux several times.
